Biography
Rolf grew up in Bern, Switzerland and received his Ph.D. from the University of New Mexico under the guidance of Barney Maccabe. He participated in the very first SOS in Santa Fe and many wonderful SOS meetings since then. Rolf has been a researcher at Sandia National Laboratories, IBM Research in Ireland, and is now leading a team at Intel that is developing mOS, a multi-kernel OS for the Aurora system at Argonne National Laboratory. mOS combines the performance, deterministic behavior, and scalability of a lightweight kernel with the convenience and ubiquity of Linux. Rolf’s R&D work is in the area of lightweight kernels, Portals, systems software, and fault tolerance for supercomputers.
