Welcome to Session VI: AI and Science: A Marriage Made in …

It is well recognized that AI has made significant strides in science discovery with examples such as data analysis with drug design, predictive modeling with earth systems, and intelligent control in experimental labs. It is expected that this impact will only increase in the future. Such impacts, however, often requires the collaborations or marriage between researchers
in AI and the science domains.

As with any marriage, sometimes it works well and other times it may end in separation or even divorce. Such differences in outcomes raises the question about the
importance of effective communication, common interests/goals, group dynamics, etc.

This panel will discuss the importance of such collaborations and the factors that contribute to success or failure based upon their experiences.
